Adele – Someone Like You (Live in Her Home)

I have to admit that the song “someone Like You” by Adele makes the hair on my arms stand up and gives me those little chicken bumps all over. What an amazing voice and the lyrics just reach in and touch my soul. Even though I am not going through what she is singing about, I can’t help but know exactly how she feels.

I also love how the English accent completely disappears when she starts singing. That seems to be the case with many British artists now that I think about it. Actually, when I really start thinking about it, I cannot name any song that is performed with an English accent. Is it possible that harmony and an English accent cannot coincide? Does this prove, in some cosmic way, that it is in fact the British that have the accent, and not the Americans?

Really beautiful! the accent truly does go away odd.

I have never given it much thought before now, but it’s bizzar to me that the accent immediately goes away when she begins to sing, it then leads me to believe that it’s all an act? – Yes, to me it does seem disingenuous! It just isn’t heard thru song? WHY?

But it’s not just her. I can name dozens of singers right off the top of my head who have strong British accents when speaking and none when singing:
Ozzy, Mick Jagger, Elton John, that homely chick from American Idol, Paul McCartney…

It seems to me that your commentary are generally not entirely rationalized and in fact you are yourself not wholly confident of your argument. In any case I did take pleasure in examining it.

I have discovered thru listening to my iPod the other morning that Supertramp – Breakfast in America – does in fact sing with a British accent, and at times a strong British accent. I believe that it is all about the annunciation, when singing they can drag the vowels out hens losing their accent.
Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke sang with a strong British accent in there film together.
I think it’s a choice, British singers make an effort to erase their accents when singing so as to be more palatable to the American market.
Disingeuouse? I strongly agree.
